I'm

About

I am a boy grown tall so I face everything with bad jokes, questions, and doubt. I am a seeker of stories; the good, the bad, the tragic and everything in between. In a sense this makes me a griot. I approach life as a boy grown tall armed with bad jokes, questions, and doubt. I spend my days going through streams of data looking for a story to tell. I am strongly convinced that doubt is the instrument that identifies a good story, cautionary tales or bad stories. Such stories could be how well did we do today? Are we dropping the ball in some sectors? What do we need to take seriously? Are we forgetting something? My free times are then spent listening to podcasts, reading through history, biographies and science articles still in pursuit of stories and the instruments that have worked for griots before me. Music is but a punctuation for a good story therefore my music palette is as wide as the variety of stories i have read and come across. Whenever I can and often, i spend a few moments on a run, cycling or on mountains because that's the one way I manage to reflect on the stories I have come across, and to remind myself, because i always need reminding, that I am but a character in the story of the universe.

Sifa Mawiyoo

Geographic Data Analyst | Cartographer | Geoinformatics | 3's Drones, Smart Sensors and Automation | Open Data Advocate

I worked with Prestone for almost two years at the Kenya Open Initiative. He was the lead community engagement officer and resident data scientist. He performed both roles splendidly. Organised multiple events with developers, academia, government and non-government stakeholders to bolster our engagement and interaction with data users and publishers. His organisation skills were excellent and as he grew into the role he took the initiative to create and lead our special ops teams of open data fellows. They were tasked with working on internal Government data science and analytics projects particularly linked to data publishers to lead to greater insights and publishing outcomes for the platform. Some examples included building out early open source dashboards for the digital literacy program at ICT Authority and in-depth financial analytics for the Higher Educations Loans Board among several other projects. He brought open source projects with mentoring opportunities for new graduates to the Open Data Initiative I would recommend him for work in Data science roles he is interested in contributing to.
